01How do we actually apply to the Startup Program?+
Apply through the Huawei Cloud Startup Ecosystem portal (startup.huaweicloud.com). The published eligibility is straightforward: company established less than five years ago, unlisted, no more than 50% shareholding by listed companies. UAE-incorporated startups can route through the Ministry of Economy under The Entrepreneurial Nation initiative.
02How much credit do we actually get?+
Minimum 5,000 USD voucher on signup. Maximum 150,000 USD for the UAE Entrepreneurial Nation programme. Top-ups are available as the business demonstrates real growth — the credit ceiling is not capped at signup, it scales with traction.
03What is in the program beyond the credits?+
Agile cloud migration with a dedicated team, entrepreneurial coaching, best-practice sharing, priority listing on KooGallery marketplace (Huawei's 7,000+ partner ecosystem), co-marketing with Huawei Cloud, joint go-to-market, and talent development training. Plus access to Huawei's global ecosystem when you are ready to expand internationally.
04Are there named MENA startups we can talk to as references?+
Yes. Intella (Egypt, AI) is the named Huawei Cloud Startup Program 2024 beneficiary in Egypt — received credits for AI model training plus co-marketing. Dinarak (Jordan mobile wallet), Eyon TV (Kuwait video streaming), One Global and Empower (Kuwait), and Ignite (Pakistan) were named at the original Spark Program launch event for the Middle East. We can arrange reference calls.
05How does this compare to AWS Activate or Google for Startups?+
The credit ceilings are comparable. The distinctives are regional — Huawei's partnership with the UAE Ministry of Economy (Entrepreneurial Nation), the dedicated Egypt programme with named beneficiaries, and the MEA-specific commitment to 1,000 SMEs by 2025. Plus the KooGallery marketplace where you can actually co-sell once you have a product, which AWS Activate does not really offer at the MVP stage.
06What if we are an SME, not a venture-backed startup?+
The programme explicitly covers SMEs — Frank Dai, the Huawei Cloud regional president, frames it as: "SMEs are the backbone of the regional economy." Eligibility is the same (under 5 years, unlisted, not majority-listed-owned). If you are a small business going digital rather than a VC-backed startup chasing scale, you are exactly who this is for.
